Curiosity Makes For Better Writers
It never fails. Whether it’s groceries or a new piece of furniture, our cat needs to inspect everything that comes into the apartment. If it involves an empty box, the inspection ramps into overdrive.
Sniffing. Pawing. Clawing. She needs answers now.
It seems that bloggers could learn a little something from their cats. When it comes to writing about your business on a routine basis, it pays to be curious about everything. Demand answers now.
In the digital revolution when there’s new content produced by the minute,
your industry changes.
The truths that were accepted yesterday are no longer accepted. Those who keep up by inspecting the new thing in the room will come out ahead.
- What are your industry trends?
- What industry magazines/blogs are you reading?
- What is your competition blogging about?
- Who’s showing up on the front page of Google?
- What are your customers saying about your business or industry?
Stay Persistent
You’ve seen your cat after she got her toy stuck under the couch. It doesn’t matter how far under the couch, or how far out of reach it is. She’s still there pawing and clawing to retrieve it. That positive attitude and tenacity can pay off somehow in the end.
Sometimes we’re tempted to call those who are successful lucky. Chances are they probably did something to position themselves.
There’s a reason the phrase “claw your way to the top” is a cliche.
Try New Things
Our cat became masterful at tipping the trash, especially on nights that there were tasty morsels left behind. Soon after, we figured out to keep our garbage in the laundry room, where we could close the door to keep her out.
Lately we’ve heard her pawing at the kitchen cabinet doors. She hasn’t yet succeeded at opening them, and I’m not sure what her end game is with that one, but the point is that she’s busy trying new things.
When it comes to digital marketing, your options are limitless. Don’t be afraid to try a video, podcast or other creative ways to meet your audience. Just keep at it.
