When it comes to ranking in the search engines, links are currently one of the most important factors for success. Frequently linking to engaging web content, especially high within your post, can help raise your search engine rankings. It’s important to take full advantage of this, with links in the body of your website copy, and blogs.
Not All Links Were Created Equal.
In order to determine the weight of the link, one aspect search engines evaluate is the anchor text. If you are currently using phrases such as “Click here” or “more” or “Go to page 2” then you are missing out on a prime opportunity.
Instead, it’s a good idea to put keywords in the anchor text. Instead of “click here for more valuable writing tips,” I could just link to the words “writing tips” naturally within the sentence. This tells Google that my link is about writing tips, and adds more weight to it, than if it were linked to generic text.
The same goes for outgoing and incoming links. When you link out to other quality content (and you should) keywords will improve the quality of the link you are creating. This is an important aspect of writing web content that sells.
