Shopping For Corporate Writing Services
What Are You Supposed To Do?
When it comes to hiring a ghost blogger or copywriter, the choices, expectations and price range can be all over the map. All you have to do is take a quick glance through the job boards, and you quickly find out that this industry of creatives has committed to warring against each other in a race to the lowest possible price.
When some offer the services you’re looking for at $5, and others offer it at $150, what are you supposed to do? At first, as a business owner, you might be pleased with this realization. Maybe it means cheap labor on your behalf. I would caution you before you dive in to “solve” all of your business needs.
You get what you pay for.
This is where I believe my industry has gone horribly wrong. If writers don’t value their own services, no one else will. It’s that simple.
When you buy a clunker, don’t expect the speed and luxury of a sports car. You’re not going to attain industry expertise at the bottom of the barrel.
What a Good Copywriter Can Do
Even at a “normal” budget, hiring a copywriter is probably more affordable than you think. A good copywriter can solve many problems for you.
While design draws eyeballs into your marketing, a good copywriter can help you convert those eyeballs into paying customers. This is done through, friendly, informative, engaging content.
A good copywriter will show your customers how you solve their problems, and include a powerful call to action – one that compels your customers to act.
What To Ask Before You Hire A Copywriter
You should ask to see their work. They should be willing to show it to you. If they don’t have experience writing in your industry, it doesn’t have to be a deal breaker. For instance, I am a journalism convert to the marketing world. I tell my clients all the time, that when I don’t know about my subject I do research. I read all that I can, and ask other industry experts. That’s a skill that transfers from journalism to marketing.
Ask them if they understand Internet marketing. Do they know how to write with search engines in mind? Do they know what keywords are? These are all very important for a business looking to make their way up the search rankings.
A Good Copywriter Is An Investment That Pays For Itself
Blogging and writing your marketing materials takes time. A good copywriter will make that time investment, and get your business noticed. All of this equates in sales that far outpace the initial investment in the writer. Above all, a good copywriter will make you money, so don’t be afraid to invest.
