Blogging Tips That Turn Your Passion Into Art
Passion poured into every aspect of your blogging is what endears readers. Successful business blogs approach their work as art.
Here are 8 blogging tips to make sure that you’re putting your all in:
- Pay attention to word choice. This means not talking above your audience. It means explaining industry terms if you need to use them at all. It has another meaning as well. Using strong verbs helps readers go from start to finish. The artistry of a successful blog rests in every individual word.
- Utilize WordPress.org, and spring for a paid theme. They’re affordable, and they’re the most professional option available for a blogging platform. WordPress.org allows you to create an entire website behind your blogging and business operation. From there, you’ll probably want to enlist the help of a professional designer for a logo and/or theme modifications.
- Listen to what others say. You should set up Google alerts for your business, but don’t stop there. Set up alerts for the keywords in your industry. These results provide good posts for you to comment on. Which brings me to the next blogging tip…
- Comment on other industry blogs. What do you think about other industry posts? Add to the conversation on other platforms if you’re wanting people to comment on your work. It’s that simple. The “If you build it they will come,” mentality doesn’t work on the Internet. You built it, and let’s face it, so did everyone else. Let your voice be heard in other places. Again, which brings me to the next blogging tip…
- Guest post on other industry blogs. This is a great way to create quality links into your platform and expose your work to a new audience. Guest posting is an extremely beneficial way of building your new audience. When you determine your publication schedule, consider leaving one or two days a week for writing a guest post.
- Link to your own posts. These are appropriately called internal links. They strengthen the quality of your work and provide an extra resource to your readers when utilized correctly. It’s a good way to continue developing your blog.
- Spend the time you need on each post. You don’t have to look very hard to find “How To Write A Quality Blog Post In 30 Minutes” type posts. I’ve written them in the past. Here’s the truth…If it takes you longer than 30 minutes, keep going until you get it right. Your readers crave good writing. Taking the time to get the details right is what will make your blog stand out from the competition.
- Always try something new. My wife enjoys trying new recipes for dinner, or sometimes just experimenting with something entirely new. You know what? Every once in awhile it’s less than perfect, but most of the time we have a new meal to throw into the rotation. Try an opinion post. Try a discussion post. Start asking questions at the end of your blog. Try aiming a little higher. Leave your comfort zone.
